Withdrawing yen with a foreign card: Seven Bank ATMs
Seven Bank ATMs, found in 7-Eleven stores, accept many foreign cards such as Visa, Mastercard, UnionPay, American Express and JCB. The limit is 100,000 yen per withdrawal.
Which cards work
Look for these marks on your card: Visa/PLUS, Mastercard/Maestro/Cirrus, UnionPay, American Express, JCB, Discover and Diners Club.
Seven Bank says some cards with these marks may still not be accepted. If one card fails, try another card.
Limits and hours
- Each withdrawal with a foreign-issued card is limited to 100,000 yen.
- If your card works only by magnetic stripe, the limit is 30,000 yen per withdrawal.
- Seven Bank ATMs can be used 365 days a year. Visa and Mastercard can be used from 00:00 to 24:00. Other brands have short breaks around midnight (for example UnionPay 00:10 to 23:50), so avoid the last minutes of the day.
Fees
Fees for cards issued overseas vary by card brand. Seven Bank does not give one fixed fee for all cards, so check the fee screen on the ATM before you confirm. Your own bank may also charge a fee.
Tips
- Look for the Seven Bank logo. Many ATMs are inside 7-Eleven convenience stores, which are easy to find in most towns.
- Choose your language on the first screen.
- Carry some cash for small shops, even if you also use cards. See our IC card page for another way to pay for transport.
